Fairground Ministry

Every year, we do face painting at the Columbia County Fair.  The paint colors we use help us share the Gospel with children.  As we paint, we tell them this story:

Yellow reminds me of the streets of gold in heaven.  Do you know Who lives in heaven?  God does, and He wants you to be in heaven with Him someday.  But there is something that can keep you from being there: sin . . . the dark color.

Black reminds me of the darkness of sin.  Sin is anything you do or say or think that makes God unhappy.  It is things like lying and fighting with brothers or sisters.  The Bible says that everyone has sinned, but God made a way for sin to be taken care of.  The red color tells us about that.

Jesus is God's perfect Son, the only person to ever live His entire life without sinning.  Jesus knew that the only way your sin could be forgiven would be if He died for you.  Red reminds me of the blood Jesus shed.  The Bible says that "without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness."  When Jesus died, He took the punishment for something He didn't even do; He took the punishment for your sins.  His body was buried, but three days later He came back to life, proving that He can take away your sin and give you everlasting life.  Because Jesus is God the Son who died for you, you can become His child right now!  The white color tells us how.

If you believe that Jesus died on the cross for your sins and rose again, He can make your dark sin as white and clean as snow.  But first you need to tell God that (1) you know you have sinned, (2) you believe Jesus died for you and rose again, and (3) you are inviting Him to be your Savior and your Heavenly Father.  You could pray something like this:  "Dear God, I know that I have sinned and done wrong against you.  I believe that Jesus is God's Son and that He took the punishment for all my sins by dying on the cross.  I believe He came back to life again.  I receive You now as my only Savior from sin.  Thank you for making me your child right now as you promised.  In Jesus' name, amen."

When you become God's child, He wants you to learn more about Him every day.  The last color, green, tells how you can do that.  Green reminds me of things that grow, like trees, grass, and plants.  When you become God's child, He wants you to get to know Him better, to grow in how well you know Him.  You can do that by reading and obeying His Word, the Bible.  Another way you can grow in God is by talking to Him in prayer.  Going to a church and Sunday School that teach from the Bible will help you know Him better too.
